In a recent revelation, former Indian cricket stalwart Harbhajan Singh has addressed long-standing rumors about a breakup between him and Ravichandran Ashwin. Speculation came to the fore after Ashwin’s unexpected retirement announcement, which closed the chapter on one of Indian cricket’s most illustrious careers.
Ravichandran Ashwin: A pivotal figure in Indian spin bowling
Ashwin, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket after the Gabba Test against Australia, has been a pivotal figure in India’s spin bowling line-up. His career, spanning over a decade, saw him cross paths with Harbhajan, another legendary player known for his aggressive style and significant contributions to Indian cricket. Over the years, comparisons between these two groups have been inevitable, leading to rumors of discord, especially on social media platforms.

Harbhajan Singh addresses breakup rumor with Ashwin
In a candid video posted on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan tried to set the record straight. He started by praising Ashwin’s achievements, mentioning how exceptional Ashwin was for the Indian team and was happy for the Chennai-born cricketer’s achievement. Harbhajan reckoned that if there was any problem between him and Ashwin, he would be the first to clear things up, but it was nothing like this.
“He has been a phenomenal bowler for India. I am very happy for your achievement. If there is a clash between Ashwin and me or if there was ever any fight, dispute or disagreement, I would be the first person to approach him and ask him what the problem is. But it was never like that and it will never be like that.” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel, emphasizing that any speculation about a personal dispute was baseless.
He further clarified that his comments, which often criticized the spin-friendly nature of Indian bowling, were misinterpreted as criticism directed at Ashwin.
“If people twist things on Twitter and make it look like I have a problem with Ashwin, then it’s their point of view. “I talk a little bit about the fact that the fields that India plays cricket on are not good tracks.” Harbhajan added.
