‘We need to be better’ – Maresca Rues lost opportunities when Chelsea falls against Man City

The Chelsea head, Enzo Maresca, admits that his team is in a difficult place, but is confident that his team can leave his depression.

The blues fell to a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City on Saturday night, with the London club falling into the sixth in the process.

It was his fifth loss of the campaign, the same amount as Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Brighton.

Noni Madueke put visitors ahead from the beginning after an Abdukodir Khusanov error, but the hosts defended themselves, with goals from Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

Maresca reflected on the game, admitting that he was frustrated with lost opportunities.

He said: “The game began very well for us. We wrote the first and could have scored the second goal two or three times. The game would have changed completely. We got lost.

“The team was there, but in the last minutes we granted 1-1. The second goal changed the game. Robert is the first (admitting) who knows he has to do better. Work hard every day (it is the way to improve). We try to have conversations with all of them.

“We are progressing. We are better than one or two months ago. These moments will make us better.

“We scored the first and we could have scored the second and then against this team and these players, the game is always open.” We granted at the end of the first half and then the second half was probably 50/50.

“When you grant at the end of the first half, and the best way is to avoid it. Probably for me, the game is different if we write down the second.

“We need to be better, but we also play as we played, we write down the first and we could have scored the second. If we could write it down, the game could have been very different for us. ”

Maresca added that he knows that City has quality players who can punish any opposition in the world.

And once again, defender’s goalkeeper Robert Sánchez after he was not caught in anyone’s land for the second in the city.

“They have players who can change the game at any time.

“In my opinion, we are better than one to two months.

“Robert (Sánchez) is the first aware of the error. I think the second objective changed mood.

“We are in a moment: game after game, it is an opportunity for us to learn.”
