Premier League roundup: Fulham shock Chelsea, Forest beat Spurs

Boxing Day football can prove to be one of the most entertaining periods of the Premier League season and this year there was plenty on offer.

Earlier in the match, Manchester City dropped more points, drawing 1-1 with Everton to further extend their winless streak.

But five more games were on the line at the 3:00 p.m.

After that, Wolves host Manchester United before Liverpool take on Leicester.

Read on to see how the teams fared Thursday afternoon.

Bournemouth 0-0 Crystal Palace

It wasn’t a classic on the South Coast between Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.

The pair played out a goalless draw, a rare occurrence on Boxing Day.

Andoni Iraola had the opportunity to take his team to the top four, but he did not know how to take advantage of it in front of his home crowd.

It was an important point for Palace, who are closing in on the relegation zone.

Chelsea-Fulham 1-2

Chelsea lost points again under Enzo Maresca, this time at home against Fulham.

The Blues took the lead thanks to the reliable Cole Palmer and looked to be in control of the game for the most part.

But the Cottagers had no plans to sit back and take defeat, drawing level in the second half.

Harry Wilson came off the bench to score again, securing an important point for Fulham in the west London derby.

And Rodrigo Muñiz sent the visiting fans wild, scoring the winning goal in the 95th minute at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle 3-0 Aston Villa

Newcastle’s good run continued as they beat their European rivals, Aston Villa.

It was a quick start from the home side, who broke through in the second minute thanks to Anthony Gordon.

Jhon Durán was sent off by Villa, although quite harshly, leaving the visitors at a great disadvantage.

A second goal from Alexander Isak put the game ahead, while Bruno Guimaraes also had another goal disallowed later on.

And Joelinton’s third was the icing on the cake for the Magpies.

Nottingham Forest 1-0 Tottenham

Nottingham Forest handed Tottenham their ninth defeat of the season under Ange Postecoglou.

The hosts rarely saw the ball, but took advantage of their opportunity in the first half.

Morgan Gibbs-White played through Anthony Elanga who lofted the ball over Fraser Forster to score the only goal of the game.

Spurs looked toothless in attack, particularly Heung-Min Son, who was a shadow for Ange Postecoglou’s men.

Southampton-West Ham 0-1

West Ham moved level on points with Spurs after beating Southampton at St Mary’s.

It was a spirited performance from the Saints, but they didn’t have enough in the tank to overcome the Hammers.

Captain Jarrod Bowen stepped up to score the only goal of the game, but it was more than enough to secure the three points.

Victory eases the pressure on Julen Lopetegui as West Ham move towards the top half of the table.
